One of my favorite scriptures is the story of Lazarus’ death and resurrection because it shows a side of Jesus that I often forget. Martha, Lazarus’ sister, knowing that Lazarus is about to die, wants Jesus to come to see him. She thinks that if Jesus will heal total strangers then surely He will heal his good friend, Lazarus. So Jesus gets a message from a few towns over that says “the one you love is sick”(How awesome would it have been to be so close to Jesus that they don’t even have to tell him your name for him to know exactly who it is). Before Jesus reaches the town, Lazarus dies, and he enters into Martha and Mary’s grief. He could have easily saved them from this heartache and raised Lazarus from the dead right then, but he didn’t. Instead it says that Jesus wept with them. He chooses to let them experience Him instead of just know Him. He knew that they needed Him more than they needed their brother. The God of the universe is crying with us...what a humbling thought.
