The other day something or someone put this idea into my head, and it's been hard to really stop thinking about it since. It's about the story of Abraham and Isaac going up the mountain to make a sacrifice, but it's different as it looks at the story through the eyes of Isaac. We'll pick up the story as they are both trekking up the mountain with a knife and firewood when Isaac asked the obvious question of where's the lamb that they are going to kill? Abraham answers that the Lord will provide one, and they keep on marching up the rocks. The next thing we know Isaac is bound onto the alter with a knife raised over his head. There is obviously some conversation left out between Abraham and Isaac, right? I mean surely Isaac tried to talk his dad out of it...God did promise that many nations would be born of Isaac? And he definitely had to be forced onto that alter and tied down, so he wouldn't escape? Or do you think it's possible that Isaac willingly climb onto that alter and helped his dad tie the knots around his wrists, so he wouldn't flinch at the last moment as the knife was coming down. And do you think instead of begging for his life, he simply nodded to his dad, stared straight up at the sky as he took a deep breath and exhaled slowly before he closed his eyes. Good stuff.
